MAG's Anglesey Show continues to grow and now it's moved to August there's more chance of sun to enjoy the spectacular ride there.

This one is always a good show even before you get to the island, the scenery through the Snowdon National Park is stunning and as the weather was fine when I was travelling to the show it was a great ride. The sign posting was good and I got to the site without any problems, this show seems to be getting more popular every year and the change to the August Bank Holiday weekend means that most people had a bit more time to enjoy themselves.

MAG's Anglesey Show 2002The Friday night bands gave a really good show, with excellent support by Dizzy Mamma and a cracking main set by the always well received Doghouse. The food vans were good as well so the obligatory visit was made to the Hog Roast and then a few doughnuts were forced down, in the interests of checking quality and value for money of course, and then it was back to the bar for something to wash the food down. Mick and his staff (I was going to write mob but I never know when I will see them next) were doing a great job as usual and they had slipped in a very wicked guest beer from a micro brewery down the road that went down very well. Saturday arrived way too soon and a bad head was nursed for a few hours. This gave me a bit of time to have a wander around the bikes on show, some really good stuff (sorry you didn't make it Mick and I hope the foot is better now) on show.

MAG's Anglesey Show 2002It was obvious as soon as you went through the door which bike was going to win Best in Show, that chop was absolutely stunning although for my money the lovely little Yam ran it a very close second. I was told later that when the bloke from Celtic Customs who sponsored the main trophy had a look, he had a hard job deciding as well.

A couple of members of one of the local bike clubs went out to get married at this point, a really good turn out by the club and their friends which meant that they put together an excellent ride out. I think it's a hell of a way to get married. Good luck to the Happy Couple. I now felt reasonably well enough to try some more food, so I grabbed a Burger and went and watched the stunt show.

MAG's Anglesey Show 2002To be honest I can take or leave most stunt shows but this one seemed to get better and better throughout the weekend, one of the marshals told me that Sammy Mac and Dan Bird hadn't met before the weekend so the stuff they were putting together was great, I think they were both totally barking mad but it was great to watch.

Chilled out then throughout the rest of the afternoon with the occasional beer and a bimble about the stalls, the Dyno was just far too loud to go anywhere near and I was certainly not going anywhere near the waltzer in the fairground/bouncy castle bit of the show, there are some things I will not put my body through thank you very much, but a lot of fools seemed to be doing these things; you know what they say, different strokes etc.

Saturday evening was looking good, they had a different guest ale behind the bar (I think the Irish folks had drunk all the other one, absolutely nothing to do with me) which was going down very well, and the bands were doing some nice mixes of old and new stuff. The Jellythieves did a really tight set and the main band Roxoff really went down a storm. I shouldn't have mentioned storms, there are some times when you can just tell that you are in North Wales. When it starts to chuck it down in this area it really does it with a vengeance. Still, North Wales on a bank holiday weekend what can you expect? Sunday lunch time dawned with a bad head again so it was a delicate exit of the tent in search of something to wash away whatever it was that had died in my mouth. That done I checked out the bike show again. You know I am sure I could appreciate the bikes a lot more if I took the time to see them when I could move my head, or even bend over, that chop s till looked stunning though. I had a look at a bloke called Lee (I think that was his name) who was stitching a bike seat for someone - hell of a good job, and at a good price too. I got his number of him so that I can ring him and he can repair mine at the Builth Wells show at the end of May. I had to pack up and go then, good show, better date, good marshals, I will be back again next year.

Steve
